Sabrina Carpenter is on track to achieve her third consecutive week at the top of the U.K. Official Singles Chart with her charming track “Taste.”
The latest midweek chart update shows Carpenter maintaining her dominance, though Linkin Park is emerging as a strong rival with their new single “The Emptiness Machine,” which is currently in second place.
If “The Emptiness Machine” holds its position, it would become Linkin Park’s highest charting single in the U.K., surpassing their previous best of No. 6 with the 2007 track “What I’ve Done.”
The single marks Linkin Park’s first release in seven years and features new vocalist Emily Armstrong along with original members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn.
In a recent Billboard interview, Armstrong spoke about joining Linkin Park, stating, “There is so much to this band — this is a very, very important band to this world. And the integrity of the band was really helpful in keeping me grounded.”
She added, “There were so many of those moments where it was like, ‘Holy s–t,’ when you talk about the size of the shows, stuff like that. I’m on cloud nine, but then it hits you that there’s a lot of work to be done.”
While Linkin Park’s strong midweek showing is notable, Carpenter’s hold on the charts remains solid. Besides “Taste” at No. 1, her other singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” are also performing well, holding No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively.
In other chart movements, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ ballad “Die With A Smile” has entered the Top 5 for the first time, now at No. 5, and Sonny Fodera’s dance hit “Somedays” has climbed to No. 9, marking its first appearance in the Top 10.
Despite Linkin Park’s strong debut, it appears likely that Sabrina Carpenter will maintain her position at the top of the U.K. Official Singles Chart for another week, continuing her reign as a leading pop star.
The final chart results will be announced on Friday, September 13.
